The M1 runs down the west side of the city, with junction 21 serving Fosse Park, Enderby and the M69, and junctions 21a and 22 to the north-west. The M69 leaves the M1 at junction 21 and heads south-west past Hinckley towards Coventry and the M6.
Inside the city, the A563 outer ring road links the suburbs, while the inner ring road (A594) loops around the centre. The A6 crosses the city from Loughborough to Market Harborough, the A47 runs east towards Uppingham and Peterborough, and the A46 Western Bypass connects the M1 and M69 with the A607 and Newark.
If the car stops on the motorway, pull onto the hard shoulder, switch your hazards on, get out by the left-hand doors and stand behind the barrier. If you can't get out safely, stay belted in and dial 999. Then give us the junction numbers and the direction you were going. On the ring road, the name of the nearest island or retail park is enough for us to find you.
