Oxford is circled by its ring road, made up of the A34 western bypass, the A40 northern bypass, the A4142 eastern bypass and the A423 southern bypass. It's tied together by large roundabouts, including Cutteslowe, Wolvercote, Peartree, Botley, Hinksey Hill, Kennington, Littlemore and Headington (Green Road).
The A34 carries traffic north to the M40 at junction 9 near Bicester and south towards Abingdon, Newbury and the M4. The M40 passes east of the city, with junction 8 at Wheatley for the A40 into Oxford.
